How do I set up my mail when using gmail as a conduit to my main email account?

I have a school email account that i use for my email. I get too many spam emails to use it on my iphone. I want to use gmail to get that mail so that the spam is filtered. I set up a gmail account to do that. The question i have is what is the best way to set up my mail on the 2.0 iphone software to get my mail and send my mail as if i was just using my school email account. I want the sent mail to look as if it's coming from my school email and not my gmail account. Do i set it up by selecting "gmail" or "other" in the mail section and what other settings do i use.
