Forgive me if you've heard this before, but does anyone know how to stop Mac windows from auto-repositioning to centerscreen every time a folder in a partially-hidden window is accessed?
Here's an example of what I'm talking about: Say I want to move a file from my desktop to a folder located on an external drive. I click the file on my desktop, drag the file onto the external drive icon, and the drive window springs open. I notice that the drive window is only partially visible -- the lower half of the window which falls below the edge of the screen is hidden from view. Fortunately, the folder I wish to copy the file into is visible in the top half of the partially hidden window, so I drag my desktop file onto the desired folder. I prepare to unclick the mouse and copy the file to the folder when suddenly the entire window shifts position to centerscreen, causing me to either 1) drag the file over to the folder's new location and attempt to copy it to the folder before the window moves back to the partially-hidden position, or 2) unintentionally drop the file into an unintended folder, undo, manually center the window and repeat file move or, after the the folder settles back to it's original partially-hidden position, try a 1/4 second kamikazee file drop on the target folder and cross my fingers that I hit the target folder before the window autocenters once again.
I'm certain that whoever designed Mac windows with built-in, non-optional self-centering ability did so with good intentions, and there may be benefits to having partially hidden windows that autocenter regardless of whether you need (or want) them to or not, but I would just like to know how to disable this annoying little window function so that my partially-hidden windows can remain partially-hidden if I so desire.
Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thank you.
