I'd like to change the icloud ID that I use on my iphone 4s, but am afraid i'll lose my contacts. Will I lose them, and if so, what can I do to avoid that.

So... on your laptop, export your contact, in effect, making a back up.

Now when you detach from iCloud, a message should pop up and asks DO YOU WANT TO ERASE CONTACT ON THIS PHONE, and you say NO, NYET, MEI-YU.

Follow up with what Mrbobb said, after turning off and deleting icloud account off iPhone, leave contacts on iphone.

Then login with new icloud account and merge the contacts, thats it.

The bit about making a backup, always a good idea... for the 'what if something goes wrong' scenarios.
