How do I transfer Itunes library complete with Playlists from Old mac to New

Hi there - I want to transfer my itunes library complete with playlists and such from my macbook to new Imac. However, I did want to mention that currently the Itunes Library File is being shared by two users on this macbook. I want to transfer using an external hard drive. Is there an easy step-by-step process to do this? Thanks so much, and Happy Holidays!!!

I would recommend using Home Sharing. You can then sync everything across the network inside iTunes.

Also, if that doesn't get the playlists (I don't recall if it does) then you can export playlists from File > Export playlist

Simply copy the entire "iTunes" folder within your "Music" folder from the old Mac to the new Mac. Make sure to deauthorize the old Mac from ITunes store if you are passing the old Mac on to someone else.

Can I simply use my last backup on Time machine to transfer everything to the new one. Would that work as well??

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, you can do that as well. As long as you can navigate to the "Latest Backup" folder on your Time Machine drive, just dig down to your Music folder and copy the entire "iTunes" folder. It works perfectly, all music, all apps, playlists, everything.

Thanks so much for the replies. I went ahead and transferred all of my library music using home sharing. No problems!! My next task is to transfer my playlists. Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks so much for the help!!

If it were me i would have home shared the playlists individually then went to the general home sharing and change it to show only what isn't in your library then complete the sharing.

If I am to Home Share the playlists now, my songs get duplicated within my main music library. Isn't that true?
