Hi there,
I have an iPhone 4 on iOS 4.0. It's jailbroken and I have Cydia apps as well as other apps. I want to update to 4.3.1 with the new redsn0w but I have a few queries. I'm also not using ultrasn0w.

1) Can I just update straight to 4.3.1 using redsn0w and keep the jailbreak with all my apps etc. or do I need to restore first and the use redsn0w?
2) How do I sync all my cydia apps back onto my iPhone after I have jailbroken on 4.3.1 if I do need to restore first?
3) Does all my app data get saved ie. game saves?

Thanks for you help!

This is my first JB to JB update so I'm not sure exactly what to do either.

I know to do a back up in iTunes on your current OS before you try and upgrade.
Do the upgrade through Pwnage or RedSn0w.... past that I'm not sure.

Do we go back into itunes and click "restore" to get our app saves and folder layouts back?

Then just re-download your Cydia apps? Or load them in the custom settings using Pwnage?

Thanks guys! I know this is a common annoyance.

1. Hit update in iTunes
2. Jailbreak with redsn0w using Apple's 4.3.1 ipsw
3. Install all Cydia tweaks you had THEN
4. Restore iPhone from backup.

If you're using pwnage, don't take the extra step of updating in itunes.
create custom ipsw
option+restore in itunes
pick custom firmware
As long as you backed up beforehand, you're fine.
Seriously? Update from my JB 4.1 to 4.3.1 in iTunes and then run Pwnage?
