My brother recently bought an iPhone 2g with the software 1.1.3 to use with T-Mobile. The phone seems to be locked but its jailbroken. I'm new to the iPhone game and I know that software is old. So my question is, how do I go about getting the phone to the 2.2.1 software? What are the necessary steps? thanks.

Download the 2.2.1 firmware. Get it here: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750. Choose the "2.2.1 (2G): iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H1_Restore.ipsw" version.

Put the phone into DFU mode like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofpinyGlQ8I

Plug the phone into iTunes, and shift-click or option-click Restore, navigate to the 2.2.1 ipsw file, and let it do its thing.

Do not activate the phone in iTunes.

After, use this tutorial to unlock it for t-mobile:

Sounds more like a hardware problem. Does iTunes recognize it? If so then maybe it's just the bluebooth problem. iPhone 2G is forever JB. Just search iclarified for the method.
