I have an imac and I want to get some files off before I give it to my school, (OR should I not even worry about it?)

There should be a hard drive icon on the desktop, double-click on it.

Copy the files to a CD, DVD or external drive.

Are you talking about copying files off your drive or initializing it? If you are giving your computer to someone else it is a good idea to initialize and reinstall the OS. You can wipe and overwrite your drive's sectors if you want to be extra careful.

Boot up from the install DVD and you will be able to initialize the hard drive.

I'm giving it back to my school because I accidently emptied my applications folder. They will probably wipe it, right?

Do you have the install discs that came with it?

If so, then you can just do a reinstall and not give it back.

This is the kind of thing that makes me technically a liar when I tell people, "Don't worry, there's no way to 'accidentally' screw up your computer. Just use it."

You have to select all, command delete then type a password in and then empty the trash.

You have to *TRY* to do that...

Even when I was 5 I never emptied my Applications folder on my Performa 630...

I don't have the install discs. And I didn't mean to delete my applications folder, I just got my new computer.
