The WD passport I used for my backups says it has about 155 gb of storage even though it is a 250 gb drive.

I selected all the items from the drive and deleted them. Is there anything else I can do? There must be something left on the drive to be at 155 gb.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did you look to see if their are any other partitions on the hard drive using Disk Utility? If you want to completely erase it you can use Disk Utility as well.

I did use it as a time machine backup, but I didn't partition it. Under "get info" it says 77 gb used. This is driving me crazy.
