they will wait 1 month before cancelling service, pay 175 etf + 1 month service and that's all..

Easiest way:

- Sign up for at&t or upgrade at $199/$299 iPhone price.
- Cancel data plan.
- Buy any other/old AT&T phone on the cheap somewhere.
- Put iPhone SIM in old phone.
- Sell iPhone.
- Enjoy old/outdated phone and big profit.

You have no iPhone and no ability to upgrade to any phone with subsidy for two years but for some people that's worth the big ebay profit.

Not likely you could make $600 or so with such a short time commitment. Just takes a few minutes to sign up and a probaly an hour to manage the ebay sale and ship. Not worth it for me though - I'm keeping my iPhone.

Can't you turn around and go buy another iphone at the unsubsidized price?
so if you get 1K for it you'll have plenty of money to buy another one at the 499 and make some cash?

I think you'll have to add another line to buy the second iPhone unless you are Premier account. I am not positive on that though.

so for a 16gb is gonna cost $499 because you cancel the service and you will have to pay more right?

$499 + 175 ETF and one month of service $70 total is $750........ iphone 3g needs to sell more then $750 inorder to gain profit right?

thanks for answering my questions guys..

That's nothing, I've seen iPhones on eBay for $1200-$1500+ and some people are actually paying that much.

Thanks for the info , but how can you cancel the data plan , once you've bought the phone from AT&T? what reason can you give them?
thanks again

You used to be able to just cancel the data plan. But I don't think they allow it anymore. You might still be able to through the website - I'm not sure.

You put your simcard on another cellphone and then call and tell them that your iphone is broken or sold it or not using it any more.
Then they remove the iphone data and then you reinsert sim into the iphone.

I'm not sure that works anymore.
When you signed the contract, it was written in there you have to keep the plan, regardless of what happens.

Also, you can buy the iPhone at an unsubsidized price. It's called the Pay As You Go iPhone from ATT. Not sure if that's available anymore though.

Thats false, you dont need to keep the data plan till the contract expires.
Theres ways to remove it and many have done so.

You're correct, I retract my previous statement.

Also, through my research, you can still get the PAYG iPhone from ATT.

hey guys sorry to bring this back from the dead but is this plan still viable? with the iphone 4 selling for quite high on ebay I am thinking about this. after selling it i would want some other smartphone that I'd buy off ebay, for cheaper of course. I could just put my SIM in and continue to use my data plan as is right?

As long as you don't cancel the account and just switch phones, you should be fine. They did rais the ETF to $325 if you want to cancel the accou t though.
