I have heard people accessing the roots folders of the itouch for various reasons, but haven't been able to do it myself yet. I have tried turning on ssh, using the program cyberduck on my laptop, entering in the username 'root', password 'alpine', but it keeps saying login incorrect. I have tried setting my own password in ssh, but still to no avail. Am I missing something? I am working on a Powerbook G4 by the way running Tiger.

Also, what other uses are there in being able to aceess the root folders, besides the basics of treating the itouch like a HD?

Thanks,
ben

hey, i just figured it out:
1. jailbreak your touch/iphone
2. go to installer and under Categories click on System
3. Chose OpenSSH and install
4. open whatever ftp cliend you may desire (i use Transmit)
5. under protocol, chose sftp
6. under server, type in your device's op address (to find out go to Settings > Wi-Fi > chose your network [click on little arrow next to it])
7. under username type in root
8. under password (if you didnt chose anything different when you first jailbroke it) type in "alpine" (without the quotes)
9. if it asks you for the initial path, type in / (that is optional, though)
10. Connect
11. Browse device's root flders

they key here is to have the OpenSSH App installed first
hope this helps :)
