I just got the M1 MBA, and it’s currently naked but I am carrying it around in a sleeve. I was wondering if it’s worth putting a case for it?

I don’t dress it in white after Labor Day. I generally keep to solid grays and blacks for my MacBooks.

As long as the sleeve is well padded all the way around, you should be fine.

Take a look at Woolnut. Excellent protection in a sleeve.

In my opinion, cases for MacBooks are silly, but don't hurt anything.

Keyboard covers do. The physical tolerances in MBs mean that a keyboard cover will most certainly put pressure on your screen. With older MBs (not sure if the new ones have this issue), the anti-reflective coating would be eaten away much quicker since the oils from your fingers would be touching the screen at all times when the lid was closed.

I use a sleeve to keep the exterior safe in transport. I make sure to take care of my device when it's out of the sleeve. That's why mine stays naked.

hehe naked is winning with 13 to 0/0/0/0. Why would you do anything to cover even an inch of this sexy, beautiful machine! :D

Nice question!
I never covered my late 2010 MacBook air since day 1- i have a Timbuk2 travel tote bag that helped keep the air shiny all these years. the silver is very elegant and durable. I
would get a navy blue cover to match the iPad and iPhone, but that seems too much.
I am swabbing the keys now, carefully...

This may be true if you leave your screen naked as well. It's not popular, but I've been running a rMBP 2015 for years now with a premium matte screen protector since the day I got it (prefer sacrificing a few nits of brightness for the anti-glare/reflection as I spend long days staring into this screen) and a keyboard cover has gone just fine with it. I imagine the MBA would be fine too.

My first rMBP 15" did suffer from the reflective coating issue after a year or 2 of using a keyboard protector but got replaced right away by Apple for free (as part of their recall program)

I loved the way my 2020 MBA looked in SG. There was a shelf above my desk that fell off the wall. Luckily my month old 2020 MacBook was there to break its fall. Now its got a white DBrand and a few cool stickers that cover the dents. Just like when I got my Jeep. Only the first one hurts.

Carrier sleeve** for - well - carrying, other than that naked as the day it was born... :p

** Haven't gotten a new sleeve for the new M1 Air, yet, but I have a few old 13" sleeves laying around.

I have never put a case skin or keyboard cover on any of my MacBooks or other laptops. Just a ridiculous concept. I have a bag it goes in if traveling but that’s it.

I have always used a case up until now when I got my M1 MBA. I have Apple Care, and it looks so much better naked. So, I will keep it naked this time go around!

I ordered this zippered padded sleeve case from Amazon yesterday and it's already here. I will use it when I am toting the MBA somewhere outside home; that will usually mean it's being carried inside a larger bag of some kind. The case fits the new MBA perfectly, should protect it from scratches or gouges while in transit, and I like the color and fabric. I have used similar type cases/sleeves for my other MacBooks and have not regretted any of them. I'm sure that they prevented some serious scarring to the outside of my MacBooks.

I like this sleeve that you ordered! I think I'll have to pick one up for that price!

Call me crazy, but I've used keyboard protectors on my last two MacBook's (dating back to 2013) as I can't stand the look of worn down keys from all the oil on your hands and fingers. It doesn't affect my ability to type as far as I can tell, and if I take the cover off my mid 2012 MacBook Pro, the keyboard and keys look like new.
