Once you turn on find my iPhone on the phone you should be able to track it on the MacBook without adding anything.

Thank you, you two! I will do that tomorrow. When I do that, since find my iPhone will be on my MBP, will I be able to find my MBP with my iPhone?

Yes, so long as you enable Find My Mac in your iCloud preferences on the MBP.

In my experience, it's a lot quicker at locating iPhones and iPads, because they are often connected to the internet all of the time. In theory, you can enable Power Nap on the MBP so that it periodically updates its location, but I've found it to be rather unreliable.
