i did a google search and all i saw was old threads pre 2010

i use mkvtools to add the srt subtitle into the mkv or mp4 container the video is h264, i then put the movie file in the program "Burn" this converts it to .mpg for burning to disk

the problem is the subtitles disappear/don't show in the mpg or dvd

here are the programs i have and tried unsuccessfully

handbrake
mkvtools
toast - i dont know how to add subtitles with this

ffmpegx - this one didn't work, i followed the guide on there website on how to add subtitles

im running mountain lion

im ready to give up and install windows 7 from boot or Parallels, but i don't wanna do that just for this , there has to be a way

with windows 7 i used convertxtodvd

In Handbrake click on the subtitles tab (center of the dialogue box) choose the track you wish (i.e. English, French...) then check forced only (if that's what's missing) or default and choose burn in - if there is no internal subtitle track you can add an external srt.

Once you get the hang of it it's easy.
