How do you cancel Verizon Data PLan?

How do I cancel Verizon Data PLan on the iPad while keeping the current amount of data I have left? Does it involve closing your entire account and having to resign up with a brand new one later?

You cancel the data and your plan stays active until the end of the current billing cycle, or you use up your data allotment. Also when you cancel, you'll get a message telling you how long your account will stay open. If you restart your account within that period, you won't have to go through all the account setup process again, you just login and sign up for another month.

I called verizon before I sold my ipad 2 and they said to write down my MEID number and the phone number assigned to the ipad and give them a call once the new ipad was delivered.
