How can I clean the iPhone USB port (the connector slot at the bottom of the phone)?

Is it ok to blow in it or use a compressed air can?

With the phone off, is it ok to use a damp q-tip or cloth to clean the inside of the port and then let it dry before turning it back on?

Thanks!

I believe it is actually called a dock connector, but hey ;)

Anyway, I would advise against blowing into it, since your breath has moisture in it. Your best bet is canned air. Avoid liquids if possible, esp since Apple are now cracking down on moisture damaged electronics.

Watch it with the canned air. There is a liquid propellant in the can that can spray the moisture sensor. I don't know if it will trip it but if it doesn't it could get under the screen.

A hand blower (like a rocket blower sold in Photography stores) is the only safe way. Blow too hard and you are only blowing dust into the the phone. Just be careful.

Silly Putty

I found that the easiest way to clean it is by using Silly Putty. Its able to squeeze in between the small cracks and wont get stuck because it all sticks together. Great alternative to the useless blowing.
