Is there a way to delete photos from the photo stream in iOS 5?

You cannot, you can disable Photo Stream and remove all of the photos from your device, but all of the images will stay in iCloud and come back if you enable it again.

Exactly.

Think of the Photo Stream as a feed of pictures you've uploaded from any device using the same AppleID. Once it's uploaded it's there for 30 days.

Currently, there is not a way to manually delete those photos. I'm hoping that Apple improves this with an option to do so before the iOS 5 is released.
