Let's say I do a search for restaurants and I want to call one of them .. Is there a way to do that?

Yes, just say "Call -" or have it bring up a list of bussnisses and tap on the one you want. It will open Maps and it should be under the bussnisses name in Maps.

I know about tapping it, but then you still have to go through some steps ...

are you saying to say "call" after it displays its results?

Also, is there a way to display results sorted by distance rather than rating?

Mine sorts by distance whenever I ask her to bring up something. Then I say call whatever one of the results in the search I want to call.

Interesting - mine do not necessarily sort by distance.

I say, "Give me the phone number to the nearest ----" and Siri forms a list. Just tap the one you want to call and it should send the call.
