I use adium and am running out of space grouping my contacts, I need some original ideas. The problem is that my current system is pretty biased.

Currently I use a ranking system that is as follows:
N00bs
Peons
1337 H4x0rz

the latter is t3h group to be in.

So how about you?

I used to not have any groups at all, just like mkrishnan, but I currently have my contacts in 5 groups. I help with the youth ministry program at my church, so I have a group of current kids, another for those who have graduated, another for the adults that help out, and then a friends group and an "others" group. Works well for me.

Just hide offline contacts and then alphabetically (although I do divide Family and friends, but nothing to big) sort the contacts. Pretty common.

I guess I'm pretty boring.

- (work group)
- college friends
- hometown/high school friends
- german friends
- family
- other

Ok I need help. Is there a way to purge names that have not been online for long time like 7-8 years.
Also how to you even rename groups in Adium and how can you even organize them!!!!??? I must know theres some pruning to be done for me.

Just like this:

Yummy Boys I want to sleep with
Yucky Boys I don't want to sleep with
Girls

I've got one big group with everyone called "Online Buddies", then I have the automatically generated "Recent Buddies", which contains people who have IM'd me, but I don't like enough to actually add to my real buddy list.
