I have a problem of always forgetting to unmount my external drives which shows me the corruption warning whenever I inadvertently unplug my laptop from the thunderbolt display.

Is there a way to avoid this?

For this reason... I avoid using external drives with my MBA attached to my TBD. It is too easy to forget to eject the drives.

My Thunderbolt drives will be connected to my iMac once it arrives.

Shut down the laptop...then disconnect it from any external devices ...then move the laptop. Periodically restarting a Mac is a good idea. Doing it as part of moving the laptop makes sense.
