Given there's no magsafe with LED, how do you know if the MB is charging when it's plugged in and the screen (or entire machine) is off?

I believe one of the reviews said the screen will display a battery charge icon similar to an iPhone/iPad.

No, of course not. When the computer is off or closed, you know it's charging because it's plugged in.

What if there's a problem with the connector or the power plug is loose or fell out?

What has happened to me on many occasions, is that I check in to a hotel and plug my phone or computer in. I don't see a light/charging indication and realize that the plug has no power coming to it, either because it was defective or because it needed a switch to be turned on. I figure out where else to plug the device in.

Let's say I run the device dry while on the plane. When I land and plug it in, how do I know I'm really connected to power without waiting to actually power the device up?

There is also a chime as the USB-C is plugged into the slot. I noticed this even when the sound is all the way down. It is faint, but audible.

I know it's charging by the same was before the charging light was introduced. I looked at the screen to see if there is a lightening bolt icon. Or, I just assume it's working (99.9999999% of the time it is working).

When I charge my iPhone I always look at the screen to see if it's actually charging before I place it down. Takes 2-3 seconds. Easy.

it makes a chiming noise when you plug it in, like iOS devices do when sound is on except it does it all the time, whether on mute or not.

If you're hard of hearing/deaf, it'd be tough.

I am confused. I thought someone said that it will display a charging icon even when off.

It will show it charging for a second when you plug the charging cord into the laptop, after that the screen stays blank.

As a follow up to the iphone comparison, is there a way , like on the phone, to press the power button and get the charge icon and status for another brief second?
