I don't typically do it traditionally but now with Touch ID I feel it's useful. I added "Screen lock" to the Control Strip on the Touch Bar in System Preferences / Keyboard.

I use hot corners and set one to 'put display to sleep', which locks my machine, close the lid and put the 'screen lock' button on the touch bar. I mostly use my computer in clamshell mode so hot corners does the trick.

Same. Useful shortcut.

I did this too, but it seems to put it in sleep mode, which I don't want. I noticed everything loses internet connection when I would prefer it just lock the screen.
