How do you make ringtones in garageband??

I've heard several people refer to this... but you cant open an m4a / m4p file in garageband... so how are you doing it?

You don't. The ringtone editor is built into iTunes.

Thats what I thought... but some people were talking about garageband ringtones... so I wanted to see whats up with that.

Some people are clipping songs in Garageband and then using something like iToner to upload them to their phones, instead of paying Apple twice.

I haven't used Garageband for this so I can't answer the OP's question, but Fission has been working nicely for me.

Yeah, thats what I mean by using garageband to make ringtones... how do you "clip" a song to make a ringtone??

Yes you can (m4a at least). Open Garageband and drag the file into the window, then edit it down. That's how I make ringtones.

It says it wont work with protected files... any way around this??

Burn it to a CD and import it back in again?

Burning a protected file to a CD and importing never got rid of the protection for me before...

You have to burn it as an audio CD not a data CD...

Sorry to bring up an old thread, I have been a "stalker" of this forum and have officially signed up. I recently wrote a "how to" make ringtones with garageband and thought I would post it on here. Please let me know what you guys think.
