I am trying to use my late 2009 iMac as a monitor for my PlayStation. I have a hdmi to mini display adapter. I cannot figure how to display my ps4 screen on the monitor. I search on the internet and it says to turn on Target Display Mode by the keys CMD + F2 or CMD + FN + F2 but none of those are working. It does nothing.

What do I need to do to have my ps4 display on the monitor?

Which model 2009 iMac? It has to be the 24 or 27 inch model. You said late 2009 so you must have 27 inch. The iMac must be booted into macOS for Command + F2 to work.

What HDMI to Mini DisplayPort Adapter? It won't work with Mini DisplayPort (from computer) to HDMI (display) adapters. It must be a HDMI (from computer) to Mini DisplayPort (display) Adapter.

Does PS5 support 2560x1440 (for 27 inch)? The iMac display is probably not a multi sync display so it requires a specific 2560x1440 60Hz timing.

Did you try Target Display Mode to iMac from a PC or Mac to verify that target Display Mode is working? You can use the other computer to test various timings.
