What exactly is EDGE (I'm assuming that's what the E displayed on my iPhone is) and does it count against my data usage.

I'm new to ATT from a phone with no data plan...Thanks.

Edge is 2g service and a lot slower than 3g. It still counts against your data

Edge is the old system ATT was using.

Definition:

EDGE is a third-generation, high-speed, mobile data and Internet access technology. It's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services including video and music clips, full picture & video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the move.

No you don't get charged.
