I am curious how some of you are able to try two phones before deciding on one to keep? I am guessing you are just buying the unlocked versions and not putting them on contract? is that right?

I bought an iphone 12 which i'm liking but I am also super curious about the mini. Would love to try it out before returning the 12 - but whichever phone I go with I want to put on contract to get the carrier deal (which also allowed me to get $350 off an ipad).

For what it’s worth, I’ve found the carrier tablet deals to be pretty useless. They require you to buy a cellular tablet (which is more expensive than a wifi only tablet to start with) and then they lock you in to paying for cellular service for that tablet for 2 years.

Unless you really need a cellular iPad then you’ll probably wind up paying way more in the end than if you didn’t ’save’ $350 with your carrier and just bought a wifi only tablet on your own.

Just order another phone from Apple and test it out.

You have 2 weeks to return it at no cost to you.

Don't get one from the carrier - they might charge you a restock fee or some silly excuse not to take it back...

The second phone not on a carrier will work using Wifi.

I took 2 12 phones around town with one phone tethered to the other which has carrier service....

If purchased sim-free you actually have till 1/8/2021 to initiate the return. I got my 12 Pro Max Pacific Blue Sim-free model delivered yesterday and I checked, I have till 1/8/2021 to initiate the return. *This is if you purchased directly from apple.com or at the apple store. However, I will stay there may be restrictions with carrier models, depending on how it's purchased, meaning if it's on the installment plan, those may not qualify for the extended Holiday Return policy, and would have to abide the the carriers. If I remember correctly 14 days before it gets locked in.

Oh that's even better news!

Well now I can relax about testing out the M1 Mini I ordered for a complete and thorough shakeout....

Thanks!

Thanks. Totally get that. I was hesitant to do it, but I was already planning on getting cellular anyway and I had my last ipad for 6 years so I am maybe a unique case. :)

I bought my 12 through Apple with a Sprint sim on an Apple Card installment plan and it actually has the extended return window as well.

How long did it take from the date of order to the date of receipt to receive your phone? I'm about to place an order and it says Dec. 6 to the 18th delivery.
