I jailbroke my iPhone while on 4.0 then installed a moving wallpaper that rendered my device useless. I couldn't do anything with the phone because when I opened an app it would minimize the interface to 1/4 the screen size. Prior to this I had changed the password. So when I tried to restore it I would get an error. I managed to get out of recovery mode using RecBoot but I have to do this every time I restore. How do I get back to normal?

Restore in DFU and setup as new phone. Dont restore from backup thru itunes.
It will work in putting your phone on stock firmware, it works for every iphone out there unless you have hardware damage.

for anyone wondering how to fix the initial problem without unjailbreaking, it is generally caused by simple background

I just had this problem - luckily I came across this information and SSHed into my phone and deleted Simplebackground from /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries.
