I've noticed recently that if text is highlighted (for copy cut etc) then it's now very difficult to get rid of the highlight section. I dont ever remember having this issue in older iOS, it used to be tapping somewhere else cleared it.

You can drag the ends of the highlight, but it is always a minimum of one character. And tapping anywhere else just seem to highlight that section you tap.

What is the proper way to clear the highlight section?

I keep tapping everywhere and swearing hard until it works. And when it finally does work, I have no idea what I did to make it work. Terrible design.

I’ve encountered this issue but it’s not terribly consistent. At the moment, on my iPad and my iPhone I’m not having any trouble in Safari, or in Kindle app. Just tap on an un-highlighted portion of the screen and the highlight disappears. But I know it’s not always that easy… just haven’t figured out the exact combo of app/behavior/OS that causes it.

Oh well, glad it's not just me being stupid. Mainly find it's worse with safari than other apps.

Though I have found a workaround to get out of highlight - if you hold the spacebar as if moving the cursor then that does remove the highlight - but I struggle to see where the cursor is ending up sometimes, can appear to be off the screen.
