My friend got the new 2020 MacBook Air and the front camera is terrible -- worse than my 2012 Air I'm about to replace. I'm wondering whether the new 13" Pro has any better camera quality? I was originally going to get the Air, but I may pay the extra $300 for a Pro if the camera is improved. I know they are both 720p on paper but I've heard anecdotally that they may not be the exact same camera.

Today's MBP and MBA cameras are the same. The current MBP cameras are worse than the pre-2016 MBP lineup. Apple started using cheaper ones to save money probably.

maybe they had to use a worse camera to fit in the thinner lid? I don't care to defend Apple either way. It's hard to imagine a trillion dollar tech company couldn't figure out some way to improve the camera.

They probably will make all kind of improvements without changing the processor for the next version. They have to have some reason for users to upgrade next time around. Intel doesn’t move very fast any more.

Maybe they are waiting to come out with all the upgrades for the ARM powered MacBook. New mini LED displays with a 1080p/4k webcam like on the front facing iPhone. A legacy USB A port with an SD Card reader. Magsafe 3.0 with 64 GB of ram & 8TB of storage where you don't have to sell your first born. Who knows it could happen. It won't but, it could. We all have to be dreamers.
