wondering if anyone has any information or experience on how the app store would treat an app that has content on it that is only available to subscribers of a larger product that contains a lot of non-digital components. e.g., if a person subscribes to the product -- which sends things to the person in the (snail) mail regularly, e.g., and, also, provides digital content to that subscriber via an app -- would the app store still require that the company pay the apple store 30% of the subscription revenue, even though the subscription is for a lot of non-digital (and non-app-related) material?

are there terms that the company or app developer have to or can follow so that the offering of that app isn't regarded by the app store as something it's entitled to receive 30% of?

e.g., if i subscribe to hbo, i can get the hbo app and subscriber-only for "free" as part of my subscription and apple doesn't take 30% of the hbo subscription fee. same with, e.g., espn insider. if i subscribe and pay the subscription fee for espn insider and then i use the espn app, i can access the espn premium (and subscribed to) content without espn paying apple 30% for that premium subscription fee.

wondering what the standards or criteria are for an app that's part of a broader subscription-package not being treated as something that triggers the 30% revenue share.

any feedback or thoughts appreciated. (and sorry for going on so long here!)
