How does AppleCare work with replacements? 16GB Black iPhone 3G

I have a 16 GB Black 3G, I checked the site but they don't carry them anymore, I've been having mild issues, like hairline cracks, dust under screen, and flickering LCD but I haven't called it in yet to go to the Apple Store to replace it though.

What are they going to replace it with? A brand new device or a refurbushed one? If a brand new one will it be a 3GS or a 3G?

Just wondering...

You'll get a refurbished iPhone with the same specifications as the one being replaced.
