Probably will be a week or two before we know for sure. I would get the extra GPU cores if you're planning on doing demanding gaming.
 
GPU performance scales in a fairly linear manner, so you can compare cores and get a fairly good idea. The M1 iMac has a 7 or 8 core GPU, while a base 16” MBP has 16 cores. So, graphics performance should be at least twice as good in this scenario. Obviously this is a rough guide and doesn’t account for thermals, etc.

I imagine since the actual architecture of the GPU isnt changing but just the cores, that we see some form of mathematical increase in performance. Obviously there will be software bottlenecks, but I think on Monday we will have more answers
