How does this TV show work exactly? Do they have to get permission from the criminals to appear on TV? If so why would so many of these people in obviously embarrassing situations agree to appear on TV? And why doesn't anybody ever look at the camera?

How does COPS work?

They get the people to sign release forms to show their faces. Most of them sign it cause they think its cool and some are just dumbfounded so they don't. I think they contact the police department then they get armor and go with the cops along for the patrol.
