How does dual band work? 2 and 5 ghz utilization?

Well, I see that the newer airport extremes have dual band. Now a device that can take advantage of that will use the two different networks? Usually, you give a name to the 2.4ghz channel and a different name to the 5ghz channel right? Or are you supposed to name them the same thing?

You can name them the same if you want. But if you do that, you will have no control on your devices if you want them to attach to the 2.4 network or the 5 network. (At least on Macs) I name them differently for that reason.
