Hey guys,

i just wonder where and when ios 8 is installed on the new iphones. I mean,
ios 8 isnt even ready yet and the phones are produced weeks ahead.

do they ship them to the US and apple installs iOS 8 on them or what?
I just dont know about the whole supply chain process and it keeps me guessing.

thanks for the explanation.

They are flashed with iOS 8 GM before they are packaged (like 2-3 weeks ago). iOS 8 GM was ready for these iPhones - iOS 8 GM wasn't given to the public/devs until last week because it contained information about the new iPhones (my guess).

Who flashes them? So we have ios8 GM on our devices and have to update first when we get them on friday?

so nobody knows fpr sur how ios is installed on new devices?

iOS is installed on new devices on the assembly line in China. The version of iOS 8 that is pre-installed on iPhone 6 models is exactly the same file that will be released via iTunes tomorrow. Whether you use the iOS that comes pre-installed on the 6 or update it yourself this weekend, it will be exactly, bit-for-bit identical.

Last year there was a photo of iOS being installed on new iPhones. I believe they used cables, not wireless, to do it. Like the photo showed a dozen cables connected to a dozen iPhones all being installed. Not sure if that has changed.

I wonder if Foxconn deals with the same iTunes errors we do when installing/updating our iOS devices :D

That's what GM is for, Gold Master.
The build which is flashed to the shipping units over in China, like 3, maybe 4 weeks ago that started.
