I'm a bit disappointed in how iTunes manages the tagging of M4A-files with VBR.
In the last few months I've imported a huge collection of CDs using the setting iTunes Plus. Directly after importing, the tagging seems to be excellent. The birate is shown with the notion (VBR) behind it.
But it seems to me that over time, I randomly loose this information. At first I thought this was due to the regular software updates of iTunes, but some albums stay correctly tagged while others miraculously loose the term (VBR).
My questions now are:
- Where does iTunes save the information about VBR? Is it stored directly in the M4A or in the library (i.e. XML)?
- Are there any tagging tools for OS X which can recognize any VBR-encoded files and tag them accordingly?
Thanks a lot for the help. I know I can be a complete nutjob when keeping my music collection clean and in order.
