How does one turn off Podcasts in iTunes 11.1?

I keep unchecking podcasts from the preference list, yet iTunes turns them back on. It just keeps downloading the same ones over and over then freezing iTunes completely. I have unsubscribed to them, but once I subscribe again on an iOS device they come back in iTunes, again the podcasts unchecked in preferences. Its driving me nuts, I am already somewhat crazy. The dang thing is useless to me now, as if iTunes is bricked. Any suggestions? Thanks T


UPDATE: I think I've got. The sync podcast subscriptions and settings was checked in the store preference tab. So, it looks like its behaving properly.

exactly! it's driving me crazy. they go away for about an hour then they pop back up and start downloading. like i said in my OP i have all the settings off...
