How does ordering online work for Apple phones?

If I order a phone online, do they ship out the device from the HQ in Cupertino, CA? Or would they ship out the device from the closest Apple store -- assuming it's an item that is in stock at that location (through FedEx/UPS)?

Additionally, are they still doing the 1 day shipping overnight from Apple deal up until Christmas?

They could ship from the US or China depending on the model and availability.

Keep in mind that typically warranties begin the day the item is shipped out, not its arrival. This is good to keep in mind should you have any issues in the near future.
