I was wondering if you have have a ton of media files, and you start taking up more than the storage capacity and lean on iCloud for the file storage, what happens to how your phone works when you lose internet connectivity? I currently have a 1TB phone with about 200GB utilized across various apps so everything works great, but if I changed to 128GB and just leaned on iCloud to store the rest and I had this situation, does this even work?

You would lose access to much of your files.

You would see thumbnails for everything that had been synced the last time you had internet, but you wouldn’t be able to access them unless there was a locally held recent cache. Video would appear to launch and then just beachball, for example.
Makes sense. Not all are imagery. What would happen with apps with downloaded music files for example?
Also, would the phone crash? Some are not just files but the apps themselves have a size.
I'm guessing 128GB just doesn't work even with a large iCloud storage option.

128 GB is not a good option these days, even with the cloud.

Usually, the app is held in separate memory from its media content, so your app will most likely work (make sure you have at least one piece of locally held content to be sure); it just won't be able to draw on its cloud-held content.

128GB Pro ordered (never arrived) but I now I just picked up a 256GB at the Apple store due to the better camera and video features.

Never used more than 64GB in the past 5 years; but this 16 Pro is amazing.
