I went to Best Buy today to look at iPhone 12. I asked them how does the trade in work for trading in a iPhone 7 Plus and they told me that I'll get a gift card for the trade in value of the iPhone 7 Plus and it can only be used towards the iPhone 12 accessories. Is this true? or how does the trade in work actually at Best Buy?

Unless it’s changed, you should be able to use the gift card for anything you want.. I used a trade in credit for an iPad towards the purchase of a newer iPad about 2-3 years ago..
Should be able to use it towards purchase of phone. I traded in an old iPad for a newer one last year and was able to use it towards purchase.
