i had smart covers for my iPad back in the day, but that would sleep/wake the iPad with just a magnet. You could use pretty much any old magnet and if you put it over the right spot it would sleep/wake the iPad.

The iPhone X folio case is different. By default you don’t have the lock/unlock option shown in display settings. Which is what enables it disables the feature on the hardware side. But, once you put the phone in a folio case the setting is unlocked and stays unlocked from then on. However even with this enabled, as far as I can tell, magnets alone still won’t sleep/wake the iPhone.

Anyone have any idea how this is all working? NFC in the case + magnets? It has to know it’s in the case somehow to show the setting.

I would like to know about that too. Probably several sets of magnets? One for activation of the function, another for sleep/wake?

If that was the case then then other folio cases would work but they dont. It seems only the Apple Folio case will wake the screen.
There could be an nfc tag in the case ?!?

Thanks for the video. Trust me I googled the bajeesus out of it and couldn’t find anything. Glad you had better luck. Interesting that the two magnets are in the bottom of the folio case and yet when they did it with the two pen magnets they had to do it at the top and bottom.

In my experiments I only used 1 magnet which is why it didn’t work.

This video still doesn't explain why it doesn't work if it's not actually inside the case part.

Does the backing *also* have a magnet, which creates the north magnetic pole?

just a typical flip case with unreasonable price!

Price is relative to the financial situation of each individual. The video shows the Apple Folio has a few tricks most other iPhone X folio cases do not. Unlike most other cases that use very low quality "genuine leather" the Apple folio uses very supple and premium feeling leather.

I don't find the price unreasonable. I have paid several times the cost for a nice wallet.
