How does the Mac sleep light work?

Just wondering how the light works. Does it use LEDs? I noticed tiny dots that resemble LEDs. And are the lights shining straight through the aluminum body? How did apple accomplish this?

It is one LED. There are very small laser drilled holes in the aluminum casing that allow the light to shine through.

Very hard to tell how Apple accomplish it but these are surely led lights.

You can see the holes if you use a magnifying glass and the LED is on.
