Will we get normal 3G speeds instead of "edge" and visual voicemail now?

Only if the area has been refarmed. All iPhones sold by ATT, Apple, or Tmobile from April 12 on will have the chip that will run on GSM and AWS. They said no software/firmware update will activate it on older iPhones, even iPhone 5s that are have already been made.

wow, that sucks.

I activated a 3GS on the $30 plan just today. I get about 1.5-6Mbps download speeds. Not bad considering I would get from 0.00 - maybe 1.5Mbps if I were lucky on AT&T. My 4S gets 4-9Mbps on T-Mobile as well. My Nexus 4 gets 17-21Mbps on T-Mobile.

just curious, did visual voicemail work on the 3gs? :(

It doesn't work on any iPhone currently. You will dial your VM # when you press the VM button or you can press and hold on #1.

On my Nexus 4, I can download and use any Visual Voicemail app to use, hopefully Apple will allow an app on the app store.
