I think I'm going to purchase a 15" non retina MBP, and I was wondering how it rates overall? I'll use it for the following: college, so office, aperture, skype, blogging, databases, general surfing, itunes. I don't think I can justify spending the extra $500 or so on the retina. Would you still recommend this machine? Also I don't know if I should go w/ 500 GB or 128 SSD?

I think the non-retina machines are great and am actually looking at the late 2011 refurb for $1359. One of the things I like most is that the RAM and hard drive are user upgradeable. Good SSDs are in the .75/GB range and may drop even more. Go with a base non-retina MBP (new or refurb) and do your own upgrades. ;)
