I'm interested in maximising the usage of the spare optical drive to be used as two hard drives. I believe that the Pro Caddy 2 is a good option and was wondering if anyone has it installed and could share their thoughts about it?

Also, how does it work? Do you have to route two SATA cables from the hidden extra ports on the motherboard or does it use an adapter to change PATA to SATA? And where do the power connecters for the hard drives come from?

It doesn't use any kind of PATA to SATA adapter. It routes cables off the extra SATA ports on the motherboard. So if you're planning to use it with the 2009 Mac Pro, it's still undetermined whether those extra ports are still there. If you had any other questions just email transintl directly -- they're very knowledgeable and responsive.
