How does the sending faxes feature work?

Hi! i'm a dude that can't speak and needs a way to talk to people that only have a fax or phone number. I originally didn't even know Mac osx could do that. Do I just unhook my land line and plug it into my laptop and go to the printer/fax option? Would that work or do I need a designated fax number?

You might need a modem for that. You can buy USB modem from apple if you don't have one and have a landline.

Otherwise you can use internet service such as efax.

I have a modem-- 5 year old powerbook G4.
