Ysterday I drove down to the VZW radio tower closest to my house at 1am and was getting 40-47mb/s download

But in a more realistic situation it's around 10-20 mb/s download

How about you?

I've seen 3.35 down 0.14 up on 2 bars Verizon LTE. This is at my house so not a big deal.

I've also seen nearly 33 down and 11 up on five bars Verizon.

Here's mine in pa

This is faster than my upgraded Comcast hard wired connection is on my iMac in the center of Silicon Valley.

I know my speeds aren't on LTE, but I was quite impressed when I saw these download speeds on 3G HSPA+.

Between 17 to 18.58 mbps on a rooted Galaxy Nexus with hacked hotspot app tethered to my ipad 3.

Save $130 upfront.
$0 monthly charge (your always going to have a data phone right so why not use it).
Longer battery life with just the wifi version.

There was a reason why I avoided the iphone 4s and it's paying off. Why have multiple devices with individual data plans when Android phones are much more versatile? I even have 3 removable batteries to keep me going long time with unlimited data.
