I've never ordered an iPhone on launch day and I'm curious to know if I've got any hope of getting my hands on the 5s next week!

So how long does it usually take for them to sell out online? :)

Since 5s won't we available for ordering until next Friday, the odds of you getting one next week are probably zero.

usually they only have 1 per color per store. So unless you are first in line, you won't get one.

...well you can still pre-order the iPhone 5C and have it delivered on launch day, several hours after it went on sale. So that obviously means there's a lot of stock this year...

I don't think that you will have any problems getting a 5s fast.

No on knows how long. Every launch is different.

It will start with a "available to ship in 24 hours" then drop to 1-2 weeks, 2-3 weeks, etc.

They won't sell out, per se. The wait times will increase dramatically. Right when they come out, you will see ship times of less than a week. About an hour after sales start, that will jump to 2 weeks. A couple hours after that, it will jump to 3-4 weeks.

I don't think the 5c will have any inventory issues. It's basically the iPhone 5 with a few tweaks, and a plastic shell. I think it's easier to produce.

The 5s may very well have production constraints. We'll all find out next week.

Depends where you're getting it from, but usually pretty quickly.

Sometimes they keep some stock back for the next day.

Launch day iPhone 5 phones sold out in about 8 hours last year.

No pre-orders this year for the 5S, so who knows ...

Do you think there's even a little chance he was being sarcastic?

I was being sarcastic. If the OP wants a real answer. The answer is, it depends. Some will sell out early, others will have plenty of stock. It depends on color/storage/carrier and the popularity of these in your local area.

Hows that for truth!:D

Thanks for your response but I was asking about online preordering and not availability in stores.

Of course. Yet given the level of ignorance and misinformation typical on MR around any phone release, it's also entirely possible for that post to have been completely serious (in that persons mind). Thus the existence of emoticons such as . :D

Perfect. :D

You said: "...if I've got any hope of getting my hands on the 5s next week!."

Your chance of getting your hands on a 5s next week, when ordering (there is no pre-order for a 5s) on Friday, the 20th, is zero.

Same answer essentially. It depends on available stock and consumer demand, neither of which anyone here is likely to know (or comment on if they do know the internal figures/projections).

In the past, launch day orders were often delivered the following week with the usual glitches in any sort of order/ship scenario. Orders through the carriers have sometimes had more glitches than orders directly through Apple.

Best bet is place your order, go for fastest shipping method, and cross your fingers. Realize there's a high probability of needing to sign for your order when it arrives, so plan appropriately.

No pre-ordering the 5S available. Call to order on the 20th only. But I think that was what you actually asked for...Ordering, not pre-ordering. Once you order online, it may take a few days or more than a week if you are one of the lucky ones to get through. If Apple has a good inventory here in the USA, you should get it fast. If you are not lucky, and its still in China, than be prepared to wait a little longer.

Selling out question ? No one really knows now. Apple changed the rules to ordering online, and no Pre-Ordering this time around. Last time the pre-order inventory went real quick
