Hi All:

I am a iPhone 8 user. Touch ID works well for me as I wear glasses. I would consider an iPhone 11, but I have concerns with how well face recognition works in the following situations:
  1. I am an avid golfer. When I play golf I wear a hat and sunglasses. Will face recognition work when going from no regular glasses to sunglasses and a golf cap?
  2. I like to listen to podcasts--typically at night before falling asleep. I often wake up in the middle of night and put on a podcast before falling back asleep. Touch ID works great. How well would face recognition work in the dark and with a pillow covering half of my face?
Thank you in advance.

1. I've had no trouble with Face ID while wearing my polarized sunglasses, regular glasses, and I also wear hats quite often.

2. Face ID works well in the dark, I've had no issues, but if your face is covered by half a pillow, that may give it pause. I've had moments like there, where sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Just depends on how much of your face is covered, I suppose.

It doesn’t work very well for me wearing dark sunglasses. I usually have to raise them up to get the phone to recognize me. No issue with regular glasses.

You can make alternative appearances in the Face ID settings if you are finding it has trouble unlocking because you are wearing sunglasses for example.
