Hello all,

I'm planning on buying my very fist mac next month! I absolutely love the 13"mbp. I do photoshop and video editing (I also have a desktop but it's about 5 years old now and will be slower than the mbp).

My question is: how good is the 13" for photo and video editing?

Thanks

Edit:

I forgot to mention that screen size isn't an issue for me because I have an external monitor. I'm also a college student so I don't want to lug the 17" around.

I have the 13 basic with 2gb of memory, you need a least 4gb for photos and videos editing, If I was you I will buy the basic one and get 4g of memory in newegg.com for abou $60 cheaper then apple...

You need to purchase the 17" to be any good.

 I've seen lots of ignorant, idiotic comments on this forum, but I think this one takes the cake.

I do recommend getting a 15 inch though, because you can get a better gpu and cpu with that, but as long as you get it with 4gb of memory, you should be fine.

The GPU will not make a shred of difference in video cutting. It will make a difference in Motion or Color, though, if the OP is planning on using them.

The 13" MacBook or MBP will do everything you want. Buy one and enjoy it! :)

you don't need at least 4 to edit video but whatever, we all know the more the better.

I do a lot of stuff on this one that blows my desktops out of the water.

I have an entry level 13" with no upgrades and I do all those things just fine. Its a hobby so if it were for work I might want more ram or bigger screen. But I probably edit at least one video a week and plenty of photos with no issues at all I love it.

there's another I think we must not miss out
is the screen quality.

I'm not sure for video but for photo
you would probably need a pretty good and accurate screen color.
I think going for 15'' & 17'' obviously have a better screen.
don't forget that the 13'' have too many screen model
there's post of some getting purple color in their blues,
some got washout.

but actually with a good calibration you'll be fine
not unless your unlucky end up with those problem I mention above.

bigger screen is better too.
13'' is bit small with 1280x800

of course, doing video and photo you may already have prepare for external monitor.
