How good is the drop protection with Apple leather cases?

I have an iPhone 8 and want to get a apple leather case. I am just worried that they provide really minimal drop protection. What has your experience been?

0. It's a purely cosmetic case. It doesn't even offer 100% coverage of the phone, leaving the bottom completely open. And very little depth over the camera to protect the camera.

It’s not a case you want if you tend to drop your phone.

3-4 foot drop with my 7Plus shattered the screen. No screen protector

Would not recommend for drop protection

I think people protecting 8/X with this are even crazier

If that back glass shatters that's gonna be a replacement iphoen cost

Now I see this thread that I just installed my Apple leather case on my x... with no Apple Care + lol.

I got this yesterday and it’s one slippery case. The fact that it doesn’t cover the bottom is also a big no-no. Back to the Apple store it goes.

Well my experience is different. Granted, the iphone 7 plus was probably not quite as delicate at the X but I dropped mine several times in the last year and the case offered great protection. The phone was perfect when I sold it.

I have used these apple leather cases on all phones since the 5S and now have it on the X. For me they offer a good combination of protection and style and they are not very bulky.

There is a lip all round to protect the phone, open bottom or not, however if the ground is particularly bumpy and the screen hits a stone then it will likely smash. You could say that about most cases though except for the very bulky ones.

dropped my iPhone 6 a few times while having the leather case on (twice on cement - falling out of my lap inside my truck and onto the ground so 3-4ft?) and my iPhone worked just fine after it. of course on cement, the case had a good scuff on the corner. over time it rounded itself out with the corner again. i had a total of 3 leather cases for my iPhone 6 (saddle brown, midnight blue and product red).

currently have the saddle brown for my iPhone X. love the case.

also want to note a lot of people talk about the opening on the bottom. after 3yrs of owning my iPhone 6 and over 2yrs with a leather case - it's still mint.
